South Dakota requires the owner of a vehicle to purchase insurance or provide proof of financial
responsibility. In addition, your auto lender may require you to purchase auto insurance to protect them against damage to a financed vehicle.
South Dakota state law requires minimum coverage of:
- $25,000 for bodily injury or death to one person.
- $50,000 total per accident for bodily injury or death.
- $25,000 for damage to property.
